Hey there Mauritian PHPers!
As you might have seen on Twitter or facebook, back in January 2016 Nadhiir and myself announced our initiative and passion for creating a PHP usergroup for Mauritius. Being passionate about PHP and having so much vibes for The PHP Community, we needed some more vibration and feel that locally we are missing that kind of “PHP-rythme”.
And so without any delay that night on the 9th of Jan 2016, we created the virtual PHPMauritius UG while our heart-mind-self were all singing the #PHPc music loud and proud. And even got it pinned on the world-wide PHP UG list over at php.ug. Needless to say that the catalyst behind our action is the Godfather of The PHP Community, I named the PHP Ninja Turtle Mr Michelangelo van Dam! On that same night, special thanks goes to Mark Baker and Andreas for also playing a vital part in boosting our intent into ‘the’ action.
After nearly 5 months, we have officially launched / presented it to the Mauritian audience at the 2nd Edition of #DevConMRU, founded by our Mauritian Software Craftsmen Community leader, Jochen! (See pic below)
The #phpMauritiusUG Presentation by Wasseem & Nadhiir
We have managed to have someone record our talk, although 10mins or so of it in the middle is missing. So have a look at the youtube video below – we welcome your feedback as well either as Youtube comments, comments on this post or via reaching any of us.
Our Objectives & Roadmap
We Are Thankful To Our Upstream – The PHP Community aka PHPc
Thankful To Jochen – The DevConMRU Organizer
We are thankful to JoKi for having given us a platform to express ourselves and an opportunity to introducing/launching #phpMauritiusUG to the Mauritian IT crowd.
Our First Meetup And We Are On Meetup!!
YES!!!! We also have our dedicated Meetup page – click here! And we will be announcing the date for our FIRST meetup which will be next week. Stay tune!
The Essence Of Meetups & Our UG Initiatives
Having a UG and meetup is an opportunity to unite people, to make friends, to socialize, to get to know what each other are doing, helping each other out..etc That’s our main focus, specially at the start.
A meetup for us is also not just about a formal talk (it’s not a working place), we would also love to have everything discuss or share something over a pizza or a drink.
We are not here to say we are the Experts and throw all your ‘X-Y-Z’ on us to solve, NO – (we had 2 people thinking like this during the conference).
We like diversity and we will very much welcome speakers from other tech communities both from Mauritius and people in holiday to Mauritius..etc
Help In Any Way You Can
You do NOT need to be a core PHP developer or even coding to be a part of our UG. If you like to help, you are eager to learn PHP and want to be a part of our members, by any means reach out to us – we would love to hear from you.
