Hey guys, we had an awesome first #PhpMauritius meetup back on the 31st May 2016. We are thankful to all our 18 attendees, 2 speakers (Chervine & Sean) and venue sponsor. Despite being not-planned beforehand as it all went up from our DevCon launch, we were happy of that first setup and we hope you too.
We also had an AWESOME audience – you are all amazing, thanks for coming!
Now, it’s high time for a 2nd meetup to keep the level of inspiration, enthusiasm and passion vivid and rocking!! We are 101% passionate about what we believe in and what we want to do with @PhpMauritiusUG and we want to share that passion with like-minded people like yourself.
Are you ready?! We are! And our 2nd meetup is confirmed for this incoming Thurs 21st July 2016 as from 6.30p.m
Please reserve your seats (we have max. 20 seats, first-come-first-serve), we have events’ page created on the following platforms (ordered by prominence):
(Please share those links with your network as well – we are thankful if you do)
Regarding the restricted seats, since we cannot predict yet how much people on average we can have for each meetups, we went for a safe 15-20 sittings.
- Voila Hotel / Bagatelle Mall of Mauritius
The TWO SPEAKERS
At our meetups, we aim to have 2 talks; one which is non-technical, more in being inspiring and/or related to the community stuffs. While the 2nd talk more technical. While it might not be easy to get such a combination on a consistent basis, we will keep doing our best in this regard as well.
We have two awesome speakers lined up for you:
1) Mozammil Khodabacchas – Vice President of Research & Development for Oryx Cloud.
This will be a non-technical talk.
Title of talk => “How to keep a diverse (and remote) team happy”
Short Description => “Will be mainly about the challenges Mozammil faced over the past year related to hiring the right talent, keeping them happy and grounded and getting the best out of them.”
Duration => 20-30mins
2) David Dias – Frontend Lead/Manager at Proximity BBDO
David did a high-quality talk during DevCon and we hope to get immersed in his technical world again during our meetup. The talk will be oriented in helping PHPers get acquainted with the frontend world..etc (Subject matter still in discussion)
Title of talk => “How to invite a Front-End developer to dance?”
Short Description => “Facilitate interactions between Front-End and Back-End developers”
Venue Sponsor – another great example of #CommunityWorks
We had been having a hard time in acquiring a ‘proper’ venue. Fortunately for us, our good friends over at WeCamp and Stefan Koopmanschap stepped in at the right time to keep our visions alive! We are THANKFUL & GRATEFUL to them for making our 2nd meetup possible.
PLEASE tweet a small message to all of them to thank them for being so awesome.
WINNER – From 1st Meetup
During our last meetup, we mentioned the person who would tweet the most before that meetup-day ends, will win a prize. Aaand the winner is: Mr Jochen. JoKi congrats and thank you for your presence, participation and all your tweets.
(He wins a free one year premium membership with Github).
NEXT – 2nd Give-away For 2nd Meetup
The person that brings at least one friend or colleague along with him, will be entered in a draw. He’ll be a direct winner if he is the only one bringing someone along or has the most count.
FREQUENCY OF MEETUPS & CHALLENGES
At this point, considering the challenges involved in 1) finding speakers 2) getting a proper venue and 3) getting a decent amount of people consistently, we are thinking of the following:
- Doing the meetup either each 2-months or each 3-months
- If we do it each 3 months, then each 2 months we could have a social gathering around a coffee or in a food-court somewhere.
We’ll most probably run a poll for that, but you can also comment below to let us know your views.
Till then, See You On Thursday! Let’s Rock it!
